All you have to know about Roulette
Roulette (from the French word for little wheel) is a popular casino game, which is played all over the world since the early 19th century. To play the game, a roulette wheel, a cloth with the roulette layout, and a croupier are needed. The roulette wheel has 37 pockets with different numbers, starting with zero (green) and ending with 36. The numbers 1 to 36 alternate between red and black.
The croupier is in charge of spinning the wheel. He is not allowed to participate in the game at the same time. While the wheel is spinning, players may place their bets until the croupier announces, “No more bets”. He has the right to refuse a bet.
Roulette is one of the most popular casino games of all times. Players can purchase chips at the table from the croupier. To start the round, the croupier has to spin the roulette wheel, than he throws a tiny little ball in the other direction. In professional casinos, supervisors control that the right procedures are followed. If the ball hops over the side of the wheel, the current spin is restarted. The already placed bets stay on the table. To distinguish between bets, each player gets a different colour for the amount of money he buys himself in. Each player can leave the game after each round.
There is no minimum or maximum amount of players needed. The participating players place their bets on numbers, blocks of numbers, a colour, or on even or odd numbers. Depending on the probability of the bet, the player gets a certain amount of money if his number wins. All participants agree on a minimum and maximum bet.
The cloth with the layout is normally positioned between the players. The different betting options for insiders (permanent players on the table) include a straight, split, street, corner, sixline and a trio. Outsiders (players playing at several tables at the same time) can also bet on even money, group bets and columns. Depending on the bet, the payout lies between 35 to 1 and 1 to 1. Lost money goes to the bank.
Roulette remains subject to luck, although professional players have claimed to develop certain strategies to beat the system throughout the centuries. The more famous strategies include the Martingale strategy and the Fibonacci Sequence. However, no system has so far produced any certain millionaires. Casinos are very careful with maintenance on their tables and wheels and with their choice of croupiers to avoid fraud. Many countries have age restrictions for gambling.
